SCIENTIFIC NAME: Nephelium lappaceum

 

COMMON NAMES: Rambutan, lychee, litchi, hairy lychee, Chinese lychee.

 

DESCRIPTION: Oval to round fruit, weighing approximately between 20g and 50g, with a small almond-like seed. The peel is covered with soft, non-stinging spines (hairs) used by the fruit for respiration. The flesh is abundant, white, fleshy, soft, sweet, and pleasant. It is not astringent, non-staining, and not acidic.

 

HARVEST COLOR: Uniform and intense red, some varieties have green spines, and some fruits may have pinkish tones.

 

SIZE AND WEIGHT: Uniformly sized round or oval fruits weighing over 23 grams and up to a maximum of 50 grams.

 

BRIX DEGREE: Minimum 18° at Harvest pH: 4.0 to 5.0

 

WASHING: Prior to packaging, the fruit is washed in a sodium hypochlorite solution with water (100ppm) for 20 minutes to remove pests, dirt, and disinfect the fruit.

 

PACKAGING: The fruit is dried and sorted for packaging. It is packed in corrugated cardboard boxes with the amount of pounds required by each customer.

 

NUTRITIONAL CONTENT Rich in important vitamins such as vitamin C and lesser amounts of B vitamins, including folic acid which is essential for pregnant women. A significant source of potassium and magnesium. The fiber found in rambutan greatly improves intestinal health. Additionally, it provides calcium, crucial for proper teeth and bone growth. It aids in enhancing iron absorption and the osmotic balance of cells.
